'Pizza & Wine' at Sarehole Mill

Thank you to everyone that joined us for tonight's Pizza and Wine at Sarehole Mill, as promised here are the details of the wines we paired with the Sarehole Mill Bakehouse pizzas.

The theme was 'Italy's Greatest Hits in Wine'

Arrival drink with canapés

La Gioiosa Prosecco Valdobbiadene Superiore DOCG

Majestic Wines £14.99 or £9.99 in a case of six

Grapes grown and hand picked on the steep hills near Treviso, between Conegliano & Valdobbiadene, this is the Grand Cru of Prosecco.

Pizza Bianco with olives and capers paired with

Ammazza Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie DOC 2020

Majestic Wines £9.99 or £6.99 in a case of six

Fresh, zingy Pinot Grigio from plots of land near Verona.

If you preferred this wine once you tasted the lemon slice, then why not try a Pinot Gris?

Here are two of our supermarket favourites from Aldi:

Freemans Bay New Zealand Pinot Gris Aldi £6.49

Specially Selected Alsace Pinot Gris Aldi £7.99

Parma Ham and Rocket Pizza paired with

Chianti Riserva, Toscana, DOC 2017

M&S Classics Range £8

The most popular wine of the night, our Chianti Riserva. Cherries, roasted spice and vanilla on the palate, this wine made a great match for our pizza.

We love the Classics Range at M&S because they deliver great examples of wines that taste just like they are meant to at a really good price, very similar to the Waitrose Blueprint Range.

Look out for the Black Rooster / Gallo Nero on the neck of the Chianti Classico wines next time you are in the supermarket aisle.

Chorizo Pizza paired with

Ca’ Solaire Barolo, Piemonte DOCG 2016

Aldi £9.99

Made from the Nebbiolo grape this wine really proved that Italian wines are food wines and work best when paired with food. It is rare to find Barolo at this price point and this entry level example gives a great insight into the power of Barolo and how it can develop in the bottle as it gets older and older.

Nutella, Marshmallow and Toffee Sauce Pizza paired with

Moscato d'Asti, Piemonte DOCG NV

Aldi £4.99

The most fun you can have for under a fiver, our Moscato from Asti.

100% Moscato Bianco grapes, this wine had aromas of apricot and rose with candy-floss, oranges and peaches bursting across the palate.

My favourite of the night .. a Decanter award and a 5/5 rating on the Aldi website from over 200 reviewers says I'm not the only one.

Great with dessert but also fab on it's own or with cheese or pate.
